WBTV – Designed for everyone: Miracle Park opens in Rock Hill

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – There are miracles happening in Rock Hill.

The city’s newest park, fittingly called Miracle Park. debuted Saturday. The park is located on Eden Terrace.

WBTV got a look inside to experience the all-inclusive playground. There is a sensory wall, the Miracle Field and to enjoy other activities.

The state-of-the-art park provides people of all abilities the opportunity to enjoy the park’s amenities and programming year-round. Miracle Park’s development has been led by the York County Disabilities Foundation in partnership with the City of Rock Hill and Winthrop University and supported by numerous volunteers and donors.

Carolina Blitz: Carolina Panthers’ Charity Gives $700,000 to Rock Hill’s Miracle Park

Carolina Panthers Charities, the charitable arm of the NFL’s Carolina Panthers, announced a $200,000 grant to support Rock Hill’s Miracle Park Tuesday (June 8). And Nicole Tepper announced an additional $500,000 from the Tepper Foundation!

Miracle Park, set to open its first phase this summer, is an inclusive place in Rock Hill where people with all different abilities can participate in a full-range of sports.

The gift announcement was made at the park by Riley Fields and Nicole Tepper at a gathering of local officials, major donors and future users of the facility.

“This major commitment from the Panthers is a significant boost to making the Miracle Park dream come true. Dave and Nicole Tepper’s interest in our area is shown time and time again,” said David Williams, president of Williams & Fudge in Rock Hill and a member of the Miracle Park leadership team.

Miracle Park is a park designed for people of ALL ages and abilities to play and work TOGETHER – a place for EVERYONE to BELONG! It is located at1005 Eden Terrace, Rock Hill, SC and is the first park in the world to hold a Universal Design certification! The park is a result of a public-private partnership between The York County Disabilities Foundation and The City of Rock Hill: the Foundation is fundraising and developing the park, and the City’s Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Department maintains, operates, and programs the park and the Miracle League. Phase 1 – Complete:

  • 1 Miracle League Field
  • Concessions Area
  • One-of-a-Kind Inclusive Playground designed for play for all ages and abilities which includes music, resistance equipment, a sensory pod, interactive games, and many parallel play elements.
  • Sensory walls and pathway that addresses all 5 of senses, including a smelling and tasting garden!
  • Family restroom
  • Adult Changing station
  • Traditional Baseball Field
  • Universal Design elements

 Final Phase of Development – to begin in 2024!

 – After successful fundraising from over 500 donors in the community, we have raised all funds for Phase 1 and are now seeking funding for the rest of the park, which will include:

  • Large multi-purpose field suitable for football, soccer, lacrosse, kickball, basketball, volleyball and more
  • 2600 square foot Education Building – indoor space for programs and storage for adaptive equipment with another adult changing station
  • 2nd Miracle League baseball field
  • 8,000 square foot Retail Space – dedicated to training , employing, and serving people of all abilities.
